The American Sinus Institute in San Antonio provides Balloon Sinuplasty treatments to relieve our patients of the symptoms of sinusitis. Since 2005, this FDA approved process has been offering sufferers of sinusitis a new approach to clearing blocked sinuses, helping them to breathe normally again.

The Balloon Sinuplasty procedure is minimally invasive and works well for patients who have not responded well to previous medical treatments and continue to suffer from blocked sinuses.

Balloon Sinuplasty

During a Balloon Sinuplasty treatment, our San Antonio doctors dilate the patient’s sinus passages. Then a wire catheter is inserted into the sinus passage and a small balloon is advanced over the wire. The balloon is then inflated. As it inflates, it opens up the sinus passages, thus draining out blockages. This will then restore one’s normal sinus functions.

Since sinus tissue is not removed – as is the case with traditional sinus surgery – but the sinus cavity is widened, the procedure involves no incisions or trauma in the sinus area. This means there is less post-op pain, less scarring, and less bleeding. Recovery time is also significantly faster that with traditional sinus surgery.

At the American Sinus Institute, our San Antonio Balloon Sinuplasty doctors view the treatment as a wonderful alternative to the more invasive procedure, especially for children. The procedure is a safe, proven way to relieve patients of the symptoms of chronic sinusitis. It can also provide relief for other nasal breathing problems.
